Ticket sales dull for Thai Australia match

Ticket sales for Thailand’s match against Australia in the World Cup qualifier next month have suffered a sharp drop for the first time in recent years, with bulk of tickets remaining to be sold.

With dramatic surge in public interest to watch Kiatisak Senamuang’s side, tickets were normally sold out within minutes when put on sale. Such was the immense interest that the ticket-selling website crashed in August ahead of the start of the last-12 Asian World Cup qualifiers.

The Thai side has endured a dismal campaign in the decisive qualifying round that saw them lose all of their four group matches. They are lying at the bottom of Group B with only a single goal scored. Therefore, it came as no surprise that the demand for tickets has dwindled sharply.

Ticket sales for the Australia fixture at Rajamangala National Stadium on November 15 has been relatively stagnant compared to previous games since going on sale on Saturday. As of Thursday, only Bt100, 300 and 600 tickets were sold out, while tickets priced at Bt200, 400 and 500 are still available on the website, thaiticketmajor.com.

Saudi Arabia currently top Group B standings with 10 points from four games, two ahead of Asian champions Australia, with Japan a further point back in third spot. UAE are fourth on six points, with Iraq, who claimed their first win of the campaign by beating Thailand 4-0 earlier this month, in fifth.
