Trump supporters high on opinions, low on evidence

Re: “Clinton policies a total disaster for Asia, Thailand”, Letters, October 20.

One of your regular contributors, writing another letter in support of Donald Trump, has slandered Hillary Clinton without any proof whatsoever.
He starts with a complaint that criticism of Trump amounts to “indoctrination”, but fails to realise that the criticism is instigated by Trump himself. The critics have sound arguments and evidence for the lunacy of Trump’s policies and his disturbing character. This is not propaganda, like we see on Fox News, but plain facts agreed upon by anyone with enough brains to know that two plus two equals four.
But Trump supporters are known for not acknowledging the evidence when it opposes their opinions – their cognitive dissonance has become legendary.
This herd of sheep bleats of alleged “wrongdoings” committed by Clinton but neglects to give examples or evidence. In fact, she is the most scrutinised person in recent American history and numerous investigations have found no criminal wrongdoing!
The writer complains that signing the US-led Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade pact would threaten the sovereignty of any country, including Thailand, and lauds Trump for his opposition to the TPP. Yet free trade decreases the price of goods and services, promotes competition, and augments disposable income. All research on the effects of trade deals has proven that the benefits outweigh the negatives.
The writer continues by mentioning that Clinton’s “illegal” (no proof, no examples) and “cavalier” (no proof, no examples) attitude as secretary of state make her a threat to world peace. This is a contender for the most nonsensical remark of the decade. In fact it is Trump, the writer’s idol, who has suggested giving nuclear weapons to Japan, Saudi Arabia and South Korea, thus ending the non-proliferation policy!
His letter is deplorable, full of insinuations made without any proof or examples, and hence typical of Trump’s support. It belongs in the cesspool along with other opinions offered by Trump’s supporters.
