John Arnone makes the claim that Australia is still considered as part of the UK.
I’m not quite sure the source of John’s information but if this statement is used to measure the credibility of other statements he has made in recent times then there seems to be a problem.
Australia was only ever considered part of the UK in the early years of its existence. In strict legal terms the Queen of England is the head of state of Australia (and also of New Zealand, my country of birth).
These are historical issues that many in both countries would like to see changed. They have little relevance to either country in their modern guises.
So to suggest Australia is part of the UK is ridiculous. Australia has its own prime minister and government, currency, national anthem and flag. And furthermore if you told any Australian his country was a part of the UK he or she would break into a fit of laughter. And if you persisted you would probably get punched in the face.
Preposterous!
