What is hidden in the tax returns?
The White House website has a page called “We the People” (https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/) that allows Americans to petition their government on issues they deem important.
The Obama administration responded within 30 days to petitions that received at least 100,000 signatures.
Recently, a fresh petition was started calling on President Donald Trump to release his tax returns. It has so far garnered more than 310,000 signatures. Critics say Trump and his White House staff are stalling the release of the returns.
Trump’s tax returns would provide an insight into his finances and businesses. They would show whether he is as wealthy as he claims to be, what his income tax rate is, and how much he gives to charity.
They would also help answer questions about the president’s links to certain people in business, banks and foreign governments such as Russia and in the Middle East.
Since this is about honesty and ethics, let’s hope Trump will do the right thing by releasing his tax returns as soon as possible.
