High kicks and timeless traditions

The Tourism Authority of Thailand plays host to the 13th World Wai Kru Muay Thai ceremony on Friday (March 17) at Wat Mahathat and Wat Langkhakhao in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Historical Park.

This ceremony underlines the uniqueness of Thai culture to the many foreigners who enjoy Thai boxing. Well-known figures from the boxing world Buakhao Banchamek, Samart Phayakarun, Anuwat Kaewsamrit and Saengmanee Oumkatong Chiang Mai Gym will lead other fighters from around the world in the traditional dance ritual that pays respect to their teachers.
The event also features a professional Thai boxing competition and fairs hosted by famous Thai boxing camps, where amateurs can learn techniques with veteran boxers.
Visitors can enjoy an exhibition of ancient weapons, a demonstration on how to produce knives and swords by skilled artisans from Ban Aranyik and workshops focusing on the mystic tattoo painted on a boxer’s vest as well as a Thai martial arts performance.
Garland and cloth weaving are also highlighted. Find out more at www.TourismThailand.org.
