Thailand reached the final of the Davis Cup Zonal Qualifiers Group II after Sonchat and Sanchai Ratiwatana won the third point from the doubles rubber at the LTAT National Tennis Development Centre in Muang Thong Thani of Saturday.
With a 2-0 lead from the Friday’s reversed singles, Thailand closed the deal in a convincing fashion as the twin brothers outclassed Jason Patrombon and Patrick-John Terro 6-1 6-4 6-2 in just one hour and 21 minutes.
“It was our goal to finish the job by this rubber as we didn’t want to spark hope for the Philippines on Sunday. We tried to give as many balls as possible to Jason as he must have been tired from the Friday’s rubber,” said Sonchat.
Thailand will play the away tie final in Pakistan in September for a spot in Group I next year.
