I appreciate this foreigner who repaired a dusty road riddled with about 10 potholes near his house and just three kilometres from Phuket International Airport, despite it not being his duty and responsibility.
He could not stand the poor state of the road anymore and could no longer wait for the authorities to take action. So, he decided to repair it by himself.
He showed a public-mindedness repairing the road with cement despite having no signs showing the road work was being carried out, which caused risk for him and could have caused an accident.
In addition, he spent his own money doing the job.
His sacrifice means the road is now safer, especially at night. It could help lower the number of motorbike accidents on the road.
It is worth thinking about how Phuket International Airport serves millions of visitors travelling to Phuket as one of the world’s top 10 island destinations and how the local road serves hundreds of villagers, with the standard of the airport and road totally different.
