Medical advice on good diet hasn’t changed

Re: “Trust me: super-food is snake oil”, Have Your Say, yesterday.

Somsak Pola writes that he has “been told to avoid fat and meat and focus on grains; now they say that’s why we’re obese”. Who the hell is “they”? Does he mean letter-writer Thomas Turk, who has been writing the same nonsense over and over again for years?
Mr Pola, are you familiar with “The China Study”, conducted by Dr T Colin Campbell? He found that among thousands of Chinese people studied who were on low-fat plant based diets, “obese people simply did not exist”.
In America on the other hand, where high-fat meat-oriented diets are extremely common, obesity is a major epidemic.
It is a blatant lie that the basic medical information about diet and health has significantly changed in recent years. But I would advise that you get your information from medical journals and reputable nutritional publications, and not from clowns who no matter how many times I’ve corrected them point by point over the years continue to spout the same irresponsible drivel.
