It was dubbed the Daisy Cutter. Sometimes they did not explode when dropped! Three years ago a friend of mine who is a qualified bomb observer was touring a Hanoi “heroes” museum when, among the debris of B52 parts, he discovered a Daisy Cutter! He scrutinised the bomb carefully and was shocked to discover it appeared to be intact. As he put it, “It was still uncorked [fused]!” He figures the communist authorities probably think that if it fell 10,000 feet and did not explode, it must be safe – nothing can happen now.
Let’s hope that the person in charge of the museum doesn’t get the idea that he could make a lot of money cutting it up for scrap with an acetylene torch rig.
