Don’t worry, the vendors always win

Re: “What about a compromise solution for food vendors?” & “Plaque switch is really a pretty simple case”, Letters, April 23

Edward Kitlertsirivatana’s analysis of the consequences of no food vendor in Bangkok is excellent. There was only one venue missing that is the current popularity of delivery services. Most hot spots of food shops now provide delivery services for those who dread of finding parking spots around those famous shops. Home deliveries will thrive if the BMA succeeds.
The BMA/vendors duel has recurred so many times that, to this old Bangkokian, it’s not news. The BMA must now be lacking in profiling their good work, if they have to calm Bangkokians by showing they are still catching street vendors. The latter always end as final victors over the BMA because the authorities do not have sufficient manpower to enforce the law and are too lazy or corrupt to make good the wish of the city’s executives.
So, life has gone on for so long with
these vendors that it will go on as before, as we are dealing with people and not stoic laws.
