A few days after he fired the FBI’s director, President Donald Trump tweeted: “James Comey better hope there were no tapes of our conversations before he leaks to the press!”
On Thursday, Comey, in his testimony to the Congressional committee investigating possible collusion between the Trump team and Russia, seems to have challenged the president by saying: “Lordy, I hope there are tapes”.
It looks like Trump has finally met his match.
If for any reason Trump now fails to produce the tapes, he might go down in history as the US president who gave birth to a new-era proverb: “He who lives by the tweet dies by the tweet.”
