Taboo against marijuana is robbing us of vital medication

I resent your sarcastic headline “Time to get Thais hooked on medicinal marijuana habit?” (Your Say, yesterday).

I would rather be “hooked” on marijuana , one of the more harmless drugs, (though I don’t think any drug is 100-per-cent harmless) than suffer the excruciating pain  often associated with cancer, Aids, Multiple Sclerosis and other dreadful illnesses.
All medication has a potential downside (some far worse than that associated with marijuana use). So why do we always have a double standard about this particular drug when it has done so much to help the above-mentioned sufferers?
