Civil debate is the only arena for genuine battle of ideas
There are a few very sensible, rational letters that are well written and factually researched in “Have Your Say”.
Against these are a number letters in reply containing baseless criticism and personal insults against the authors. Counter-argument based on researched facts is one thing, but emotion-driven drivel and insults simply illustrate a lack of intellect.
This lack of intellect is much the same as we are witnessing in the United States. It is destructive. Donald Trump campaigned on clearly defined policies that, as president, he is attempting to implement. Hillary Clinton had only one policy, to attack her opponent in the style of her guru Saul Alinsky. Having lost the vote, her Democrat Party continues in the same manner. They have no policies to put forward to the people and continue to attack the elected president with personal insults. Not only do the president’s attackers have nothing positive to offer the country, but they are bent on preventing President Trump executing his promises in the interests of the country and the American people.
It’s sad indeed if this is the level to which the human mind has descended.
