‘The Nation’ allows free airing of opinions

Re: “Hypocrisy, immigration bans, and editing” Have Your Say, August 30.

Nigel Pike on Wednesday described me as the “master of purple-faced hypocrisy”.
Well, and as flattering as that may or may not be, I have to gently stand aside on this.
To take this a bit further, Mr Pike is unashamedly anti-democratic as he has openly admitted here, so to wail when it suits him should supporters of democracy express their views here, is a bit rich.
But, let us be fair and equitable; he, too, notes the disparity in editorial wherewithal between The Nation and a more censorious publication we all know about.
His hit rate there doesn’t inspire confidence, either, but neither does mine seeing as I don’t bother writing to that paper these days, given their policy on these matters.
