Thai prospect Pongsiri looks to further shine on ONE Championship stage

Pongsiri "The Smiling Assassin" Mitsatit of Thailand took the world by storm in 2016 after winning his highly-anticipated ONE Championship debut when he defeated Myanmar's Ye Thway Ne in dominating fashion.

Mitsatit followed up his impressive first ONE Championship appearance with a first-round stoppage victory over Filipino Wushu champion Rabin “The Rock” Catalan at ONE: WARRIOR KINGDOM this past March.

This time around, Mitsatit will look to build the momentum to produce on what promises to be a sensational mixed martial arts career.

Mitsatit is scheduled to go toe-to-toe against Jeremy “The Jaguar” Miado of the Philippines on the undercard of ONE: HERO’S DREAM, which takes place at the iconic Thuwunna Indoor Stadium in Yangon, Myanmar on 3 November.

Holding an immaculate win-loss slate of 8-0 with seven victories coming by way of finish, Mitsatit is currently considered as one of the hottest prospects in Asia.

The 21-year-old Chiang Mai native is now in deep training with Team Quest Thailand under the watchful eyes of head coach Dylan Fussell in preparation for his three-round strawweight encounter with his Filipino opponent.

"I'm very honored and humbled to be referred as the next big thing in mixed martial arts here in Asia. I'm ready to prove that on November 3rd. I’m training very hard with my team. I want to be the greatest professional mixed martial artist in Thailand. Not only that, I want to make my mark in this sport," Mitsatit said.

His deep knowledge in the martial art of Muay Thai proves to be a potent formula for success as he remains unbeaten in his burgeoning professional career.

Mitsatit is now adding more tools to his arsenal as he now focuses on strengthening his ground game.

"I'm young and hungry to learn. I’m very eager to develop and strengthen my skills. I’m working on every facet of the sport everyday with my coach and training partners. We're very focused on learning and adding more skills especially on the ground," he stated. “I want to be a complete package.”

The man standing in his way as he seeks to ascend to the upper echelon of ONE Championship’s strawweight bracket is Miado.

Miado, who has professional record of 6-1 and represents Underground Battle MMA Gym, plans to reinsert his name into the winner’s column after his split decision setback to compatriot Robin Catalan last April.

“I’m aware of the danger that he can bring. I’m prepared for that. I prefer to trade punches and kicks with him, but if he wants it on the ground, there will be no problem,” Mitsatit said of his marquee match-up with Miado.

“Miado is good athlete with a beautiful record. I think this match will be one of the best matches of the night. I respect him, but I need to beat him. And when I win, I hope I can compete with the best. I want to be a world champion and make money enough to change my family’s life,” he added,

Getting to this point of his budding martial arts stint was not easy for Mitsatit. With only having enough money to survive the daily challenges of life, Mitsatit used competitive fighting for a living at a very young age,

Molded and developed by grueling trials and life-changing experiences, Mitsatit did not mince words of excitement to display his exceptional skill-set at ONE: HERO’S DREAM as he eyes to secure his third-straight victory inside the ONE Championship cage and ninth consecutive win as a pro.

“My youth taught me tons of positive and challenging experiences that helped me a lot on what I am right now,” Mitsatit stressed. “I won't stop in learning new things both in life and in mixed martial arts.”

According to Mitsatit, his ultimate goal is to be a world champion in ONE Championship as he believes that a convincing win over Miado will put him closer to a date with current division titleholder Yoshitaka Naito.

"I can’t wait. I'm very excited and ready to showcase my skills in front of the passionate crowd in Yangon, Myanmar. This is a fight of my life. Winning my next set of fights will put me closer to my dream. My goal is to become the ONE Strawweight World Champion. I am here to turn my dream into a reality," Mitsatit ended.
