The government claims that of the 8 million who receive the payment, only 2 million really need it. It says that if the other 6 million give up theirs, the country can save about Bt60 billion a year. Hmm, interesting number.
But how do I know the money returned will be spent wisely? How do I know that it won’t be squandered on submarines, or tanks, or GT200 “bomb detectors”, or surveillance airships that don’t fly, or helicopters to ferry generals for their weekend golfing, or even to fund the junta’s political party? It’s hard to put stock in you generals anymore, after all the past fiascos.
Thanks, but no thanks. I’ll keep my payment and spend it on random acts of kindness, like paying the motorway toll for the car behind me or leaving a tip at a noodle shop.
