Why ‘Don’t dress sexy’ advice actually encourages sexual harassment

Re: “‘Don't Dress Sexy’ Advice Triggers an Echo of #MeToo in Thailand”, Bloomberg, April 12.

Seriously girls, if you join the party dressed like this... what do you expect?
It’s not PC but of course you will get a pat or two on the butt.
If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen!

It is hot outside and they are wet. What are they suppose to wear?  Poodle skirts? Eye candy is great, and does not rot your teeth or cause cancer. I say look all you want, but do not touch unless invited. I was dreading it this year until I saw this picture.

This subject always brings out the best ... victim-blamers in town!
What is so damn difficult to understand?
A woman can dress as she pleases and YOU are still NOT allowed to touch her, even if she decides to dress in her birthday suit!
It is really not that difficult!

It’s not about blame. You’re right that women are free to dress however they want. The choice is theirs.
But in the chaos of masses of Songkran revellers, police are simply not going to be able to prevent sexy dressed women from being harassed.

But once you start telling women not to dress sexy, you’re also telling potential attackers that their actions can be justified. We’ve all witnessed first hand how attitudes on this are changing. That’s because we’re taking a “no more” approach.
If you were sexually assaulted, you wouldn’t want people saying stuff like, “what did ‘you’ do?” Or “what were you wearing?”. You’d want instant condemnation of the attacker and to be told “you’ve done nothing wrong”.
