Apologists for military dictatorship are deluded

There are some idiotic people who write into this column with warped ideas about democracy, freedom, and the dubious benefits of living under the yoke of a military dictatorship.

Apparently the Thai people are enjoying the fruits of a coup d’état that removed a democratically elected government, which the Bangkok plutocracy didn’t like very much so it had to go.
Prior to this regime change, Thailand was a “failed state”, according to the conspiracy writer JC Wilcox. It was nothing of the kind. I suggest the writer who describes it as such gets his facts straight prior to making an ass of himself. Then he might wish to consult the CIA World Factbook, and do a “compare and contrast” exercise between, say, Yemen, Somalia, or Guinea Bissau, then look at Thailand prior to the forcible overthrow of its de facto democracy, albeit a fledgling one. Perhaps as many others in this country have found out, the contributor in question needs to be dragooned into one of those junta “attitude adjustment” programmes we’ve all read about.
