Marking vassa

Marking vassa

Just as it does every year, the northeastern province of Ubon Ratchathani is marking the beginning of the Buddhist Lent with the International Wax Candle Festival and Procession, which this year runs from July 23 to 28 and features religious rites, a magnificent wax candle contest and many cultural performances.

Over in Ayutthaya, the start of this important religious event is marked by the Aquatic Phansa Festival, which sees more than 200 colourful boasts floating down the ancient Lad Chado canal, beauty pageants and creative cultural activities.
