During the G20 summit in Buenos Aires last week, a clip of Russian President Vladimir Putin high-fiving Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman went viral.
Observers interpreted this as a triumphant gesture after Trump neglected to use his power – he is, after all, the most powerful man in the world – to move against the prince, who is accused of ordering the brutal murder of a critic, Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi, at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.
Also, UK authorities now believe Vladimir Putin approved a nerve agent attack that killed a Briton and severely injured its target, a former Russian spy, and his daughter.
Critics also accuse President Trump of having an accommodating attitude towards the Saudi and Russian leaders because he has personal business dealings with them.
Trump should be reminded that the US is a role model for the world as regards ethical and moral standards.
Hence, a failure on the part of the US to maintain its moral high ground could pose as a danger to the world in its quest for peace.
