Escape the heat and head to an icy playground at Sea Life Bangkok as the aquarium introduces its latest adventure at its new penguin zone on the “Penguin Ice Playground Challenge” concept.

You’ll experience immersive and interactive experiences that will teach you all about these extraordinary birds. You can also enjoy the all-new “SpongeBob SquarePants 4-D” movie and the addition to the aquarium’s signature Instagram spots called “New Shark Mission”.

Noppadon Prapimpunt, head of Merlin Entertainments (Thailand) and a Sea Life Bangkok executive, said: “We are always searching for new things to encourage as many edutainment experiences for visitors as possible. And what better time for a string of new activities and campaigns than a school break and the Songkran holidays? This year, we are not only launching a new summer campaign, we are also unveiling three all-new highlights. These are the well-rounded expansion of our famous Gentoo penguin’s empire, a top quality 4D movie theatre, and the introduction of the new Instagram spot of the aquarium – where visitors can snap and share their own moments with us.”

The “Penguin Ice Playground Challenge” zone is the result of the expansion of the original Gentoo Penguin zone and is designed to encourage visitors to learn and experience the penguins’ ways of life. The arctic journey begins with “Danger on Ice” – a recreation of ice flooring using floor projecting technology to recreate what a penguin has to deal with on a daily basis, such as hunters like killer whales and seals. A Snow Globe creates the arctic ambience so that it will be the coldest summer for visitors, who can compete with friends (maximum of 4 people) in seeing who can catch the most fish in the interactive Forage For Food. Test your speed based on penguin’s rulebooks by joining “The Great Penguin Swim Race” to compete with friends (again a maximum of 4 people) and see who will be the fastest swimmer. Players will be judged and categorised based on speed limits of different kinds of penguin. Pumping the speed controller to imitate and gauge penguin’s swimming speed, players with the slowest pace will earn the Scuba Diver level; the normal speed level of 6 kph will earn players the speed level of the Little Fairy Penguin; hitching up the speed level to 15 kph earns players the speed of an African Penguin; while a speed of over 15 kph means players are the match of the one-and-only Gentoo – the world’s fastest penguin.

Located on the ground floor of Siam Paragon. “SpongeBob SquarePants 4-D” first screening time is 10.30am with show times every half hour. Movie tickets (aquarium entrance fee not included) cost Bt350.

The combo package of the Aquarium entrance fee, guidebook, and 4D movie costs Bt1,290 for adults (down from Bt1,690), and Bt1090 for kids three to 11 years old.
