Cases of marijuana overdose a worrying sign

Sunday’s report “Doctors warn of ‘reefer madness’ as people react badly to cannabis medicines” reflects poorly upon the state of Thai medicine and the FDA’s ability to regulate pharmaceuticals appropriately.

The adverse reactions reported in the article are consistent with overdoses of THC, the primary psychoactive component of marijuana. The FDA should be required by the government (if there is one) to limit the content of THC in cannabidiol extracts to extremely low levels. The manufacture and distribution of CBD oil for medicinal purposes needs to be regulated and pharmacists instructed accordingly. Political wrangling is having a direct impact upon people’s welfare, it is time for it to stop.
