Dengue fever spread worsens in Nakhon Ratchasima

Dengue fever cases continue to grow in the northeastern province of Nakhon Ratchasima, with 5,542 patients and two deaths as of August 14, according to the Department of Disease Control (DDC).

Village health volunteers have now been dispatched to provide initial check-ups on residents,to fumigate communities with mosquito-targeting insecticide and to destroy their larvae breeding grounds.
The DDC website (ddc.moph.go.th) has published findings that from January 1 until August 14, there had been 69,055 dengue fever patients nationwide – a prevalence rate of 104.53 per 100,000 population – and 75 of them had died. The Northeast had the most patients at 30,627 persons (139.42 per 100,000 population) and 34 deaths (0.15 per 100,000 population), followed by Central Thailand with 18,750 patients (84.07) and 23 deaths (0.10), the North with 10,394 patients (83.70) and four deaths (0.03) and the South with 9,284 patients (99.8) and 14 deaths (0.15), the department said.
With the number of patients in Phimai district at above 4,000 cases, Phimai Hospital director Supol Tatiyananthaporn said most of them were children aged 10-14 and youths aged 15-24. The dengue patient numbers for the 12 sub-districts in Phimai were: Tambon Nai Muang at 195, Tambon Bot (307), Tambon Langka Yai (373), Tambon Nong Rawiang (109), Tambon Than la Lot (374), Tambon Krabeung Yai (835), Tambon Samrit (723), Tambon Tha Luang (187), Tambon Chee Wan (307), Tambon Dong Yai (119) and Tambon Krachon (494).
