Two Myanmar women were arrested at a border checkpoint in Chiang Rai Tuesday evening for allegedly trying to smuggle two kilogrammes of crystal meth or "ice" and 41,000 methamphetamine pills into Thailand.

Police said Wan Aung, 22, and Noon Mu, 33, were arrested at the border checkpoint in Mae Sai district while riding a taxi motor-tricycle from Tachilek in Myanmar into Mae Sai.

The drug was found hidden in fruit and snack boxes.

The two were taken to Mae Sai police station to face charges.
