The Ministry of Transport plans to seek Cabinet nod for waiver of toll fees at selected expressways under the Expressway Authority of Thailand (Exat) and the Department of Highway to promote domestic tourism during Songkran Festival, a source revealed.

The proposed waiver will be from April 10 at 0.01am to April 17 midnight.
Six toll booths under Exat will waive the toll fees during that period on Bang Kaew (Kanjanapisek expressway), Chimplee (Sirat-Outer Ring Road expressway), Bang Pa-in (Udon Ratthaya expressway, outbound), Dao Khanong (Chaloem Maha Nakhon expressway), Jatuchote (Chalongrat expressway) and Bang Pa-in (Udon Ratthaya expressway, inbound). Some 3.24 million vehicles are expected to use the expressways, with fee waiver totalling Bt115.8 million.
Two motorways under the Department of Highway will also join the campaign -- motorway No 7 (Bangkok-Chonburi) and motorway No 9 (Eastern Ring Road).
It is expected that during the Songkran period, some 6.3 million vehicles will use the motorways, with estimated fee waiver at Bt168.3 million.
