Lumphini Boxing Stadium, from where many people got infected with the new coronavirus (Covid-19), was sprayed with disinfectants at dawn on Friday (March 20).

Staff from Royal Thai Army Chemical Department started from Central Ramindra Department Store and finished at the Lad Pla Khao intersection, focusing on handrails, stairs and seats at bus stops, which are risky areas for infection.

Lumphini Boxing Stadium came to be regarded as a hotbed for the spread of Covid-19 after the Ministry of Public Health revealed that a boxing event held earlier this month was responsible for a sharp rise in the number of infected patients in Thailand. Among those who contracted the virus from the stadium was event host and actor Matthew “Deane” Chanthavanij, who revealed in a short video posted on Instagram on March 13 that he was infected with Covid-19.

Colonel Somphop Srisiri, deputy director of the Army Chemical Department, said that after disinfecting the stadium, the team will on Saturday move on to Lat Phrao district, starting at Central East Ville department store. “We will also discuss with Lat Phrao District Office to see if any areas need special focus for disinfection,” he added.
