Hot spell continues in upper Thailand with intermittent thundershowers
The Thailand Meteorological Department forecast on Thursday (April 23) that a rather strong high-pressure system covers the Northeast, the Central and the East of the country as well as the upper South China Sea.
Hot to very hot conditions are forecast for most of upper Thailand. Summer storms are likely with thunderstorms, gusty winds, lightning and hail in the Northeast, the North, the Central and the East. In the South, the weak easterly winds ease rainfall. The department urged people to stay safe by avoiding outdoor places, large trees and unsecured buildings, while farmers should beware of damage to crops.
The weather forecast for the next 24 hours is as follows:
Northern region: Hot to very hot with thundershowers, gusty winds and hail in 10 per cent of the areas; temperature lows of 23-31 degrees and highs of 39-43 degrees Celsius.
Northeastern region: Thundershowers, gusty winds and hail in 70 per cent of the areas, temperature lows of 23-26 degrees and highs of 32-37 degrees Celsius.
Central region: Hot to very hot with thundershowers, gusty winds and hail in 10 per cent of the areas; temperature lows of 26-28 degrees, highs of 38-43 degrees Celsius.
Eastern region: Hot with thundershowers and gusty winds in 30 per cent of the areas; temperature lows of 26-29 degrees, highs of 34-39 degrees Celsius; waves less than a metre high and a metre high during thundershowers.
Southern region (east coast): Thundershowers in 10 per cent of the areas; temperature lows of 24-28 degrees, highs of 33-38 degrees Celsius; waves less than a metre high.
Southern region (west coast): Thundershowers in 10 per cent of the areas; temperature lows of 24-27 degrees, highs of 34-38 degrees Celsius; waves less than a metre high.
Bangkok and surrounding areas: Hot during the day with thundershowers and gusty winds in 10 per cent of the areas; temperature lows of 28-29 degrees, highs of 36-39 degrees Celsius.
