Chiang Mai has deferred its plans to reopen the Saturday Wualai Walking Street and Sunday Rajdamnoen Road Walking Street, as well as the Night Bazaar for the time being, due to many unfavourable factors, Natthachudej Wiriyadiloktham, the deputy mayor of Chiang Mai Municipality, said.

The decision was made at a meeting between state officials and business operators in the two walking streets and Night Bazaar.
The decision was made as tourists are yet to return to Chiang Mai, while the vast areas of the walking streets made it difficult to effectively implement hygiene measures to contain any outbreak.
The curfew from 10pm to 4am also makes it inconvenient for the traders to do business.
The government eased the lockdown in the first phase on May 3, allowing many places including walking streets to be reopened. It is expected to launch the second phase of the lockdown easing on May 17.
