Whichai Pochanakij, who was transferred on March 15 over allegations of hoarding face masks, was reinstated as director general of the Department of Internal Trade (DIT) on Tuesday (May 19) in an order signed by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha.

Whichai had tried to resign the day after he was transferred to the Office of Prime Minister, but his resignation was rejected by Commerce Minister Jurin Laksanawisit, who said: “He has worked very hard to solve the face mask problem amid this Covid-19 pandemic and he managed to provide them to 60 million people in the country.”
As for the hoarding allegation, two investigative committees set up by the Commerce Minister, found no holes in the operation and management of DIT.
