Virologist urges people to consume data on Covid-19 judiciously

In a Facebook post on Monday (July 20), Dr Yong Poovorawan, an expert virologist at Chulalongkorn University, advised people to consume information about Covid-19 wisely, as there are more than 100,000 research papers and publications on the disease.

He said that the World Health Organisation (WHO) has made a pact with many online publishers and databases such as PubMed to allow people to access Covid-19 information for free.

“In the past six months, there are more than 32,000 papers about this disease,” he said. “WHO

"Within six months, there are more than 32,000 journals about this disease," he said. "Also, WHO has asked online publishers such as medRxiv, bioRxiv and Research Square to grant free access to scholarly articles and preprints on the virus.”

He said in response to this, more than 100,000 papers related to the virus have been published online, but most of them need to be checked first.

“Hence, people should consume information published on these websites wisely,” he said.
