Thailand’s standard for safe levels of PM2.5 (particles less than 2.5 micrometres in diameter) is 50 micrograms per cubic metre of air (μg/m3), while that of the World Health Organisation is 25μg/m3.

The 14 provinces struggling with pollution are Chiang Rai, Phayao, Nan, Lamphun, Chiang Mai, Lampang, Sukhothai, Phitsanulok, Tak, Kamphaeng Phet, Lopburi, Saraburi, Nong Khai and Ubon Ratchathani.

As of Monday morning, PM2.5 readings in different regions of Thailand came in as follows:

North: 32-83μg/m3.

Northeast: 26-59μg/m3.

Central Region and West: 12-60μg/m3.

East: 21-36μg/m3.

Bangkok and its vicinity: 20-49μg/m3.

The elderly, children and people with respiratory diseases have been monitored to stay indoors in areas where pollution is bad.

People can monitor air quality via Air4Thai.com and bangkokairquality.com websites, or via Air4Thai and AirBKK smartphone applications.
