Bangkok gets fourth field hospital today with 400 beds
Governor Aswin Kwanmuang led officials from the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) to oversee the Erawan 2 field hospital at Bangkok Arena Sports Centre in Nong Chok district on Sunday.
The Erawan 2 field hospital, which opens on Monday, is the fourth field hospital in Bangkok built to cope with the increasing number of Covid-19 cases. The field hospital can accommodate 400 patients (150 men and 250 women).
The field hospital received support from the private sector, such as SCG, Lotus Mattress and other donors.
Aswin explained that Covid-19 patients who showed no symptoms would be treated at field hospitals, while others would be sent to regular hospitals.
He added that the field hospital offers various facilities, such as meals and Wi-Fi, as well as CCTV cameras and security guards to ensure safety.
"The officials will inform the rules to Covid-19 patients before they enter the field hospital," he said
He said the field hospital will implement measures to contain the spread of Covid-19 by following the Public Health Ministry's guidelines, such as arranging beds in line with social distancing norms, wearing face mask, refraining from grouping.
"Patients who wish to receive treatment at Bangkok's field hospitals can contact Erawan centre on 1669," he said, adding, BMA officials can arrange transport for those who cannot go to the field hospital by themselves.
Aswin added that patients should prepare personal items before entering the field hospital, such as clothes, soap, facial foam, toothbrush, medicines, medical history (if any), smartphone and charger.
"Patients can bring their water heater to be used at the field hospital," he added.
BMA has prepared three plans to deal with an increasing number of Covid-19 patients: Enabling hospitals in Bangkok to accommodate more patients, modifying hotels to "hospitels" to accommodate asymptomatic patients, and expanding field hospitals.
