Hitachi Energy plans US$528m transformer factory in Mississippi

Hitachi Energy Ltd. plans to invest US$528 million in a new transformer factory in Mississippi that is expected to have more than twice the production capacity of the company’s existing plant in the state.
The Swiss unit of Hitachi Ltd. announced the project on Wednesday (September 16).
Construction is due to begin later this year, while production is scheduled to start in 2029.
The project is intended to help meet surging US power demand amid wider use of artificial intelligence.
Hitachi Energy described the new facility as “the cornerstone” of its US$1.5 billion investment plan in the United States.
The company announced a US$1 billion investment in the United States in September last year before subsequently expanding the plan.
The expansion came as Japan pledged US$550 billion in investment and loans to the United States under a bilateral trade agreement.
