Their Majesties to make historic State Visit to Viet Nam next week

Their Majesties the King and Queen will pay a State Visit to the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam from September 14–16 at the invitation of To Lam, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Viet Nam and President of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, the Thai Foreign Ministry announced.

The visit is intended to strengthen friendship and relations between Thailand and Viet Nam as the two countries mark the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, according to a statement from the Department of the Information of the Foreign Ministry.

During the visit, Their Majesties will lay wreaths at the Bac Son Martyrs’ Monument and the Mausoleum of former President Ho Chi Minh before attending an official welcoming ceremony, the statement added.

Their Majesties will then meet To Lam and his spouse, and grant audiences to Le Minh Hung, Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, and Tran Thanh Man, Chairman of the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam.

On the same day, To Lam and his spouse will host a State Banquet in honour of Their Majesties at Tonkin Palace. Their Majesties will later proceed to Ngoc Son Temple to view cultural performances.

On the final day of the visit, Their Majesties will visit Quan Su Pagoda, headquarters of the Executive Council of the Viet Nam Buddhist Sangha, and the Thai Cultural Centre at Hanoi University.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the visit would mark the first State Visit in the history of relations between Thailand and Viet Nam and would be a highlight of events commemorating the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations.

The ministry added that the visit would provide an opportunity to further strengthen bilateral relations for the mutual benefit and enduring prosperity of the peoples of both countries.
