4.1 magnitude earthquake strikes Nicobar Islands, near Phang Nga

A 4.1 magnitude earthquake was detected near Thailand, with its epicentre in the Nicobar Islands, India, causing the strongest tremor of the day.

According to the Earthquake Observation Division of the Thai Meteorological Department, the earthquake occurred at 7.16am, with the epicentre located at 9.415°N, 94.320°E. 

 

The location is approximately 474 kilometres northwest of Mueang district, Phang Nga.

The earthquake, with a depth of 10 kilometres, was the most intense tremor recorded today.
