Thailand In a strategic move to boost its tourism economy through culinary heritage, Nakhon Pathom Province has officially launched "Nakhon Pathom A Harmony of Flavours.
" Unveiled at Central Nakhon Pathom, the initiative represents a major push to position the province as a premier destination for creative gastronomy and cultural tourism.
The project brings together a broad coalition of government agencies, academic institutions, the private sector, and local food communities.
The shared objective is to transform the province's abundant local ingredients and multicultural traditions into sustainable economic development and vibrant tourism opportunities.
Food as a Driver of Economic Value
Recognizing gastronomy as a critical economic asset, the initiative aims to build a robust ecosystem that connects farmers directly with entrepreneurs and the global tourism market. The strategy is built upon five core dimensions
From the Roots (preserving culinary wisdom), Preserving the Heritage, Shared Cultures (highlighting diverse communities including Thai, Chinese, Lao, Vietnamese, Thai Song Dam, and Mon), Local Flavours, and A Table for the World (broadening global reach to international tourists).
A Unified Strategic Vision
The launch event highlighted the strong cross-sector partnerships driving the project's commercial and cultural viability. Governor Arocha Nantanamontri underscored the importance of leveraging food assets to generate income for local communities.
To ensure the project's long-term success, Silpakorn University has stepped in as an academic advisor, providing research-backed guidance to refine the province's culinary branding.
Furthermore, industry professionals like Chef Aom (Chotika Thirakitthikul) are championing the use of local ingredients to bridge the gap between traditional wisdom and contemporary cuisine, ensuring the region's heritage appeals to modern travelers and younger generations.
The campaign successfully debuted with the "Taste Nakhon Pathom’s Local Treasures"
showcase, featuring Geographic Indication (GI) fruits and live culinary demonstrations, including the traditional pomelo salad
"Yam Som-O Radklao." This initiative marks a significant step forward in Nakhon Pathom’s ambition to weave agriculture, commercial creativity, and tourism into a unified engine for regional economic growth.
