Heavy rain shuts more railway sections on Thailand's Eastern Line
The State Railway of Thailand has temporarily expanded Eastern Line closures to six sections and cancelled more trains after heavy rain caused floodwater to rise to rail level.
- Six sections of Thailand's Eastern Line have been temporarily closed by the state railway due to severe flooding from heavy rain.
- The closures were implemented after rising floodwater reached rail level, making it unsafe for trains to operate.
- Numerous train services have been suspended as a result, including ordinary and excursion trains travelling to and from Bangkok.
- Passengers with advance tickets for certain special services who no longer wish to travel can obtain a full refund.
The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) has expanded temporary closures on its Eastern Line to six sections after persistent heavy rain caused floodwater to rise to rail level in several areas, preventing trains from passing safely.
SRT announced on Sunday (September 27) that the closures were necessary to protect passengers and ensure railway safety as flooding continued to affect several parts of the route.
Six sections temporarily closed
The latest closures affect the following sections:
- Ban Kaeng–Sa Kaeo
- Aranyaprathet–Watthana Nakhon
- PTT yard–Bangchak Oil Refinery branch line
- Kabin Buri–Ban Dong Bang
- Prachantakham–Prachin Buri
- Khlong Tan–Hua Mak
SRT is coordinating with relevant agencies and closely monitoring water levels and track conditions while adjusting train operations as necessary.
More services suspended
The latest suspension list includes the following services:
Services departing from Bangkok (Hua Lamphong):
- Ordinary train No. 275, Bangkok–Ban Khlong Luek
- Ordinary train No. 283, Bangkok–Chuk Samet
- Ordinary train No. 281, Bangkok–Kabin Buri
- Excursion train No. 997, Bangkok–Chuk Samet
Services travelling to Bangkok (Hua Lamphong):
- Ordinary train No. 276, Ban Khlong Luek–Bangkok
- Ordinary train No. 284, Chuk Samet–Bangkok
- Ordinary train No. 282, Kabin Buri–Bangkok
- Ordinary train No. 280, Ban Khlong Luek–Bangkok
- Ordinary train No. 278, Kabin Buri–Bangkok
- Special passenger train No. 998, Chuk Samet–Bangkok
Railway stations will make announcements to help affected passengers adjust their journeys. Travellers may use the Airport Rail Link or public buses as alternatives where appropriate.
SRT will continue monitoring rainfall and water levels and will inspect affected tracks before deciding when services can safely resume.
The railway operator apologised for the inconvenience and advised passengers travelling on the affected routes to follow service announcements closely. Train routes and operating status can also be checked through SRT’s train-tracking website at ttsview.railway.co.th.
Passengers holding advance tickets for special services No. 997 and 998 who no longer wish to travel can obtain a full refund at railway station ticket offices nationwide.
Further information is available from SRT’s customer service centre on 1690, which operates 24 hours a day. SRT will provide further updates once inspections are completed and the affected sections can reopen.
