Residents in Prachuap Khiri Khan and Chumphon have been warned of flash floods and rapid runoff during the evening and night of October 28, 2026, as further heavy rain threatens vulnerable foothill and low-lying areas.
The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) issued Advisory No. 11 (283/2026) at 5pm, warning of continuing rain with isolated heavy to very heavy downpours in the South.
The department said the notice, which covers conditions through October 28, was its final advisory for this weather episode. Its separate forecast for 6pm on October 28 to 6pm on October 29 still predicts isolated very heavy rain in Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chumphon and Surat Thani.
The department warned that accumulated rainfall could trigger flash floods, rapid runoff and overflowing waterways, particularly near watercourses at the foot of hills. Landslides are also a risk, while low-lying areas could experience waterlogging.
Residents in vulnerable areas were urged to remain alert, while people travelling during the evening should allow extra time and proceed cautiously.
Thundershowers are forecast across 70% of both southern coastal regions during the 24-hour forecast period. Very heavy rain is expected in isolated areas of Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chumphon and Surat Thani, rather than across the entire region.
Thundershowers, gusty winds and isolated heavy rain remain possible in upper Thailand, particularly the Central region, including Bangkok and surrounding provinces, and the East.
Residents were advised to avoid open areas, large trees and unsecured billboards during storms.
The department attributed the conditions to a low-pressure area over the Andaman Sea and easterly winds across Thailand and the Gulf of Thailand. A high-pressure system, or cool air mass, from China also covers upper Thailand and the South China Sea.
For Bangkok and surrounding areas, the regional forecast specifies thundershowers covering 60% of the area, with gusts in some locations.
Waves in the Gulf of Thailand and Andaman Sea could exceed 2 metres in thundershower areas.
Boat operators were advised to check their routes, navigate cautiously and avoid sailing through thundershowers. The warning applies to storm-affected waters, rather than indicating waves above 2 metres throughout both seas.
The following forecast covers 6pm on October 28 to 6pm on October 29, 2026. Percentages refer to the area of each region expected to experience thunderstorms, not the probability of rain at an individual location.
