Korn accuses Thai regulators of inaction over scam networks

Democrat Party deputy leader Korn Chatikavanij has claimed that a former minister in Anutin Charnvirakul’s government is among those named in a request for US sanctions against transnational scam networks. He also criticised Thai agencies for alleged delays, saying foreign authorities had lost patience and decided to act.

Korn discussed the moves against online scam operations in a post on his Facebook page, “Korn Chatikavanij”, on Wednesday (September 16, 2026), saying the networks had inflicted heavy financial losses on Americans.

US lawmakers call for action against scam networks

Korn said details of a key document signed by the chairmen of two US House of Representatives committees would be disclosed within hours.

He identified the signatories as Brian Mast, chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, and John Moolenaar, chairman of the House Select Committee on China. The US committee’s announcement confirms that the two chairmen have submitted a request for an investigation and possible sanctions against people linked to online scam operations.

According to Korn, the document calls on the US government to invoke its powers under the Magnitsky Act to pursue legal action and sanctions against those involved in transnational scam networks. The lawmakers’ letter cites the Global Magnitsky Human Rights Accountability Act among the legal authorities under which sanctions could be considered.

The legislation provides for sanctions against foreign individuals responsible for serious human rights violations or significant corruption.

Korn claimed that the names submitted to US authorities included a “former minister in Anutin Charnvirakul’s government”.

Korn alleges Thai regulators failed to act

Korn also questioned the response of Thailand’s regulatory agencies. He said he, the Democrat Party and the House of Representatives’ committee on finance and fiscal affairs had already compiled all the evidence and submitted it in full to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

Despite this, he alleged, there had been no progress or action by Thai authorities. He argued that the delays had prompted foreign authorities to lose patience and take action themselves.
