Siam Amazing Park in Bangkok must close for at least six months after severe flooding submerged its entire water park and amusement park.
Dr Chaiwat Luangamornlert, the park’s executive chairman and founder, described the disaster as the biggest crisis of his life on Thursday (October 1, 2026).
Preliminary damage was estimated at more than THB500 million, with total damage and recovery costs put at no less than THB500 million.
These include about THB300 million to repair rides and structures and more than THB100 million for wages and staff support during the closure, alongside other improvements and expenses requiring funding.
The park had received no advance information that flooding would be so severe, despite reports of an approaching storm.
The area was declared a disaster zone, with restoration needed before the attraction can safely reopen.
The floods struck during the school holidays, normally an important period for recreation, educational visits and swimming lessons.
Being unable to open left Chaiwat so distressed that he could not sleep.
“I am not worried about myself. I am 90 years old, but I worry about my employees who are paid by the day or month, have low incomes and have come from other provinces. When employees came to me in tears, worried about what they would eat during the six months we are closed, I cried with them,” Chaiwat said.
Chaiwat thanked people throughout Thailand for their encouragement and sympathy, including messages sent through Facebook and IG.
He urged others affected by the floods to start again, help one another and help the country prosper.
He said he did not yet know how much support the government or the bank he used would provide, or whether it would be enough to restore the park.
“Even though running the park brings losses every year, I am happy every year,” Chaiwat said.
The park’s recovery depends on genuine assistance from the government, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration and financial institutions.
It is ready to continue operating if assistance measures and recovery loans materialise.
If promises amount to “all talk” without real help, it would have to close permanently.
