Prince Hisahito pays tribute to atomic bomb victims in Hiroshima
The Hiroshima trip marks Prince Hisahito’s first official engagements beyond Tokyo without another Imperial Family member accompanying him throughout the journey.

Prince Hisahito’s Hiroshima programme marked a first on Friday (August 7), with no other member of the Imperial Family joining him for the full journey as he carried out official engagements beyond Tokyo.
As part of the visit, the son of Japan’s Crown Prince Akishino and Crown Princess Kiko placed flowers at the cenotaph for atomic bomb victims in Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park.
The western Japanese city had observed the 81st anniversary of the US atomic bombing the previous day.
Friday’s schedule also listed a speech to a Nippon Scout Jamboree gathering in the town of Jinsekikogen, Hiroshima Prefecture.
Another engagement was a visit to the Honkawa Elementary School Peace Museum, which preserves part of a school building damaged in the atomic bombing during the final days of the Second World War.
A visit to the Hiroshima Prefectural Museum of History in the city of Fukuyama is planned for Saturday, after which Prince Hisahito is expected to return to Tokyo.
