As our beloved King noted, “To make the country function well, seniors should set good examples for other people to follow”. His Majesty has always led by example.
Does Chakrit believe he
is following the King’s advice by putting himself above
the law, both by refusing to take the breath test, and by calling on a top cop to let
him go? I suggest he definitely did not, and he shows no
sign of repenting. He should teach that, when others, including professors, go astray, students should be rational enough not to follow like mindless sheep. He should emphasise that, if his students followed his example, they could easily kill innocents or themselves. Otherwise his students will continue to blindly offer him moral support, because, as student Siwakorn Pongsitsak said, “We are where we are today because of his teaching.”
My parents were both professors at Chulalongkorn University. We children were always on our best behaviour for fear of bringing them into disrepute otherwise, and they behaved the same lest they denigrate their institution. Professor Chakrit should behave likewise.
