Let poor schools follow the example of rich temples 

Re: “Boost underfunded Thai schools by floating entry fees”, Letters, June 22, 2017.

I agree with Burin Kantabutra that Thai schools should be allowed to float fees for their services according to market demand.
Better yet, each school – public or private – should be required to delegate a committee to receive donations from wealthier parents for the school’s development.
In the US, when students from super-rich families have trouble either getting into while studying at prestigious schools, their parents often make multimillion-dollar donations – and the trouble is happily resolved.
The same practice should be encouraged in our country, though we must ensure that fees and donations go directly into school coffers and not into the pocket of any particular official.
In Thailand, Buddhist temples are allowed to receive donations freely and without any government oversight. How about letting our cash-strapped schools do the same, to help solve the country’s educational woes?
