Thai Airways International clarified Sunday that Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra cancelled her visit to South Africa about a month ago.

In LINE message, the airline said a Thai delegation led by Yingluck was planned in June at the invitation of South African government. However, in October, South Africa suggested the visit be postponed due to local elections and the tickets, originally booked for the December 1 travelling, was accordingly cancelled.
Earlier today, a protest leader, Sathit Wongnongtoey, told protesters that Yingluck booked herself a flight to Johannesberg, South Africa, apparently to flee the country. The message was tweeted and retweeted widely, amid spawning protests against the government in Bangkok.
Before noon, the prime minister was seen at a police compound on Vibhavadi-Rangsit Road, where she had a meeting with senior police officials.
The rumour prompted her secretary, Suranand Vejjajiva, to insist in his Tweet that the prime minister remained in Thailand.
