PTT celebrates 48 years and outlines path to a sustainable future

PTT marked its 48th anniversary by outlining four foundations and four future priorities spanning energy security, net zero and technology.

PTT Public Company Limited celebrated its 48th anniversary with a stakeholder appreciation event on Tuesday evening (August 18, 2026), held under the theme “From Strong Foundations to a Sustainable Future”.

Deputy Prime Minister Pakorn Nilprapunt presided over the event, accompanied by Energy Minister Akanat Promphan and Industry Minister Varawut Silpa-archa. Guests were welcomed by PTT chairman Vuttikrai Leewiraphan, President and Chief Executive Officer Dr Kongkrapan Intarajang, and the company’s executives and employees at The Athenee Hotel, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Bangkok.

Pakorn said PTT had continuously helped advance national policy since the “Chotchuang Chatchawan” era of 1978, playing a vital role in establishing Thailand’s energy security.

As a state enterprise, PTT had also generated revenue for the government, supported society and contributed to the progress of the Thai economy, he said.

Thailand and the wider world were now facing challenges of an unprecedented scale, making energy security no less important than food security.

Pakorn said PTT, as an organisation with a long-term vision, must continue moving forward and prepare itself to respond effectively to every possible situation.

He thanked PTT and all parties involved for helping improve Thailand’s competitiveness and develop the country’s capabilities on the global stage.

Support from all sectors underpins PTT’s growth

Vuttikrai said PTT’s 48 years of building strong foundations and moving towards a sustainable future had been made possible by support from every sector.

These included government agencies, financial institutions, suppliers, business partners and national and international cooperation networks, as well as the Thai public.

Successive PTT leaders had passed on their vision and guided the organisation through challenges from one generation to the next, he said.

The dedication of executives and employees had been a major force behind PTT’s growth and strength, enabling it to maintain national energy security and support Thailand’s economy while caring for society, communities and the environment.

Despite the wide range of challenges facing the company today, Vuttikrai said PTT was ready to move forward with stability and sustainability.

Four foundations linked to four future priorities

Kongkrapan said the anniversary event’s theme, “From Strong Foundations to a Sustainable Future”, was presented through four chapters from PTT’s past that had helped establish foundations for both the company and Thailand.

These were connected with four major priorities that would guide PTT into the future.

The event was also an opportunity to thank stakeholders from every sector for supporting PTT throughout its 48-year history.

Over that period, the company had helped secure Thailand’s energy supply, develop the petroleum and petrochemical industries and support related sectors, while creating jobs, income and value for the Thai economy and society.

Four foundations built over 48 years

PTT’s first foundation was its role in establishing national energy security.

Beginning in the “Chotchuang Chatchawan” era, PTT contributed to the exploration and development of natural gas in the Gulf of Thailand and brought those resources into productive use.

It also developed an integrated national energy infrastructure that became an important foundation for Thailand’s economic and industrial expansion.

The second foundation was PTT’s place in the everyday lives of Thai people.

Its role evolved from producing, sourcing and delivering energy into providing broader travel experiences. Service stations became “travel companions” for motorists, while the company continued developing products that were more environmentally responsible and attentive to people’s health.

The third foundation was PTT’s commitment to standing alongside Thai society in every situation.

The company implemented social and environmental programmes and provided assistance during periods of crisis, including measures to ease the burden of energy costs and support people affected by natural disasters and other emergencies.

The fourth foundation was its contribution to Thailand’s economic growth.

During periods when the country faced economic crises, PTT restructured its petrochemical and refining businesses and entered the stock market, strengthening its financial position.

PTT’s shares also contributed to the market capitalisation of Thailand’s energy sector, supported the development of the domestic capital market and helped restore confidence among foreign investors.

Between 2001 and 2025, PTT Group returned more than 1.38 trillion baht to the government through dividends and corporate income tax.

PTT sets four priorities for a sustainable future

PTT now operates under the vision “PTT: Together for Sustainable Thailand, Sustainable World”, integrating sustainability into every stage of its business operations.

The first future priority is to become a leader in the sustainability transition under the Energy Trilemma principle, balancing energy security, sustainability and accessibility.

PTT is adjusting both its strategy and business portfolio. It aims not only to become a global LNG player supporting regional energy security, but also to serve as a national driving force in the development of infrastructure and technologies that reduce greenhouse-gas emissions.

These include carbon capture and storage, or CCS, the use of hydrogen and forest-planting programmes, supporting the company’s goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.

The second priority is to strengthen PTT’s position as a Thai national champion capable of helping the country and Thai business partners expand internationally.

This will be pursued through the exploration and production business, integrated international operations and a network of trading offices around the world.

Kongkrapan said these capabilities had helped PTT earn trust as an organisation contributing to Thailand’s international reputation and national pride.

The third priority is to strengthen Thai society through the capabilities of PTT Group.

The company intends to support community and social development by applying its knowledge, technology and innovation, while creating opportunities for vulnerable and disadvantaged groups through social-enterprise models.

The fourth priority is to integrate technology into the business.

PTT will use digital technology, artificial intelligence and new innovations to improve operational efficiency, strengthen competitiveness and generate long-term growth.

The company will also continue developing its workforce, regarding internal capabilities as an important foundation for stronger profits and performance.

These measures are intended to help PTT Group maintain its credit ratings and preserve confidence among investors and shareholders.

Kongkrapan said PTT’s ability to respond to the crisis arising from the conflict in the Middle East demonstrated the strength of this approach. The company had been able to preserve Thailand’s energy stability and continue securing supplies for the public without shortages, he said.

Exhibition, media projects and charity art auction

The anniversary event featured an exhibition presenting PTT’s work and development over the past 48 years.

PTT also launched the anniversary song “Jerdjaras Chatchawan” and plans to release related content gradually from August, including a music video, an advertisement, short films and independent films.

The projects are intended to communicate PTT’s story to the wider public and younger generations.

An auction of artworks from the PTT Art Awards programme was also held during the event, with proceeds donated to the Thai Red Cross Society.
