The Green Library is an energy-efficient public library, which serves as a knowledge centre for the community, and as an educational model that demonstrates green building principles and practices.
The library is a collaborative initiative between HSBC, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration and other leading organisations, with the aim of providing sustainable solutions to combat the causes of climate change.
The library was specially designed and constructed according to LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) guidelines, as issued by the US Green Building Council.
LEED is an internationally recognised accreditation system, which scores buildings according to their compliance to environmental standards.
The project is Asia’s first public library accredited with a LEED Platinum Certification – the highest level of the green building standard.
HSBC had a total surrounding area of 1,700 square metres on which to design and fit out the 400-square-metre library. The library was developed and refurbished from a vacant building, which led to a significant improvement of both the interior and exterior that are now designed to ensure energy conservation and an overall environmentally friendly strategy.
More than 9,000 households around the community can benefit from the library, as it is their knowledge centre and the prototype for green building in and around the area, where the public can learn about energy and environmental conservation.
