Pruksa anticipates need for more prefab plants by 2016

Pruksa Real Estate plans to increase its prefab capacity two years from now as it expects the seven prefabrication plants it currently operates to be unable to keep up with demand by 2016, president and chief executive officer Thongma Vijitpongpun said.

He said after opening Pruksa’s sixth and seventh prefabrication plants worth Bt2.3 billion in Navanakorn Industrial Estate in Pathum Thani province yesterday that their total capacity would be 480 housing units per month. Combining that with the 640-per-month output of its five plants in Lam Luk Ka district, Pathum Thani, will bring total prefab production capacity to 1,120 housing units per month.
“Our first five plants are now producing over capacity to support demand for our homes, while our two new plants will start to produce at full capacity by the end of this year. When combined with our total backlog and our sales forecasts, our seven prefabrication plants will be over capacity by 2016. As a result, we will build new plants that year,” he said.
The company uses a prefabrication system in all of its residential types including detached houses, townhouses and condominiums. It helps reduce labour requirements and makes it easier to control quality, he said.
