Heavy rain battered Bangkok on Tuesday afternoon, flooding Phahon Yothin Road near Kasetsart University BTS station and causing severe traffic congestion, as the Thai Meteorological Department warned of continued rain across the capital and nearby provinces.

Bangkok’s drainage authority says repeated flooding during heavy rain is caused by the capital’s low-lying geography, rainfall exceeding system capacity and rubbish blocking key drainage points, as officials work around the clock to keep water moving.
