Thailand’s economy has been severely impacted by Covid-19 and is estimated to have shrunk by 6.5 per cent in 2020, with growth projected to expand by 4.0 per cent in 2021, according to the latest World Bank Thailand Economic Monitor report “Restoring Incomes, Recovering Jobs” released on Wednesday.

The chief of state think-tank, National Economic and Social Development Council (NESDC), expressed concerns about the impact of the new wave of Covid-19 infections, saying this outbreak may hit the economy harder if steps are not taken in time.

The Tourism and Sports Ministry will discuss the option of building a travel bubble for Chinese tourists with the Chinese Embassy, with the aim of drawing visitors from 22 provinces in China that have been free of Covid-19 for more than 150 days.
