Conergy wins bid to build solar parks in Thailand

Conergy has been selected by Thai Solar Energy Co Ltd to supply the components and provide the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) services for its combined 21MW solar parks in Thailand.

Conergy will oversee the development of the parks on two sites – one site in Suphan Buri Province and one site in Kanchanaburi Province, Thai Solar Energy has announced.

The solar parks, covering nearly 500,000 combined square meters, will provide enough energy for 14,000 households.

Construction and commissioning of the parks will be completed in February 2013.  Together, the parks will reduce CO2 emissions by 15,700 metric tons per year, a Conergy public relations officer said.

Conergy expressed confidence that development of these solar parks will strenghten Thailand’s position as the leading solar nation in Southeast Asia.

For Thai Solar Energy Co. Ltd., the solar park project marks another milestone in the company’s history of developing renewable energy projects in Thailand.  The company currently operates one solar thermal park- also in Kanchanaburi Province.  Collectively, these two new photovoltaic parks will generate over 29,500 MWh of clean energy per year.

The combined 21MW solar parks represent the fifth and sixth solar park Conergy has undertaken in Thailand and represents the continued growth of the company’s pipeline of solar park projects in Southeast Asia.

Executives at Conergy and Thai Solar Energy Co. Ltd. agree that favorable government policy coupled with powerful levels of sunlight, has positioned Thailand as a solar leader.

“The Thai government wants to meet one quarter of the country’s energy requirements using renewable energy sources by the year 2022. This is providing a baseline of support to the development of a solar energy market in Thailand,” stated Alexander Lenz, President Asia & Middle East for Conergy.
“The country currently still imports around half of the national energy needs at high costs. Each new solar installation contributes to the gradual reduction of both dependence on energy imports and their costs for the government.”

“Companies such as Thai Solar Energy are role models not only for Thailand, but for investors around the world.  They are putting their money to work in building the best solar farm possible, with the best materials.  Their strategy is for the long-term benefit of all the stakeholders, including the company’s employees and shareholders, the Thai environment and Thai people,” added Lenz.

“Since its inception, TSE has been dedicated to sustainability and the protection of the environment. Furthermore, we are determined to use the best technology and expertise available on the market in building our solar plants,” said Cathleen Maleenont, Chief Operating Officer of Thai Solar Energy Co. Ltd."
Conergy aligns perfectly with our aspiration as it has many years of success to show for itself in Thailand, with the construction of highly efficient installations according to European standards. That’s why we are very excited to have Conergy as a partner in this flagship project.”
